Democracy is about US and our service on the many task forces, committees, councils and other groups that assist our governments for all levels. In some cases, we may elect to run for an office, but the great majority of opportunities to serve our fellow citizens require an application and an appointment by the governing body.
To help citizens become more proficient in these civic volunteer positions, the Greater Salisbury Committee and Salisbury University's Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE), created the Civic and Government Leadership program which is offered about every two years. The seven-week program provides training in communications and on reaching win-win decisions as well basic technical knowledge. This program is an outgrowth of the New Patriotism Program in Salisbury conducted in cooperation with The Harwood Institute.
Click on your home county area on the right to see a pdf of the civic volunteer opportunities in your area. Review them, select one or two that you feel passionate about and contact the person who oversees those areas.
You’ll have fun being a positive force in helping make democracy in your area the best that it can be!
